WATER OUTREACH & EDUCATION
CAA recognizes the critical importance of water for all of us and works to support and provide leadership for agriculture in water related issues. CAA brings representation for agriculture at water management meetings and advocates for agriculture water rights within a balanced river system.
Yampa White Green Basin Roundtable
Since 2014, CAA has provided contractual support for Yampa White Green (YWG) Basin Roundtable and Colorado Water Conservation Board to support water education and outreach in Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties to increase the awareness of local, regional, state, and federal water issues. More than 4,500 people have attended meetings and events in NW Colorado. CAA provides coordination and support for regional water education and outreach with partnerships, support for local agriculture and the ability to bring diverse audiences together to work on common water related issues.
Focusing on increased collaborations and partnerships the YWG Basin Roundtable works to:
- Promote water education
- Encourage locally driven collaborative solutions
- Encourage community participation in solution based discussions, issues and solutions
- Provide professional, informative and educational activities in the region
- Provide information on regional water projects, studies and related issues
- Engage with area water interest groups to encourage constructive discussions and actions regarding water issues and projects in Northwest Colorado
Yampa Integrated Water Management Plan (IWMP)
CAA provided in-kind support and leadership for the Yampa Integrated Water Management Plan (IWMP) while working to connect agriculture with multi-benefit water planning projects. Current work is focused on identifying multi-benefit projects in the Yampa River basin.
Assistance with Agriculture Water Projects
As an outcome of the Yampa IWMP, CAA has received grant funding to support coordination for agriculture water projects that bring multiple benefits to the overall river. Projects may include new or updated diversion structures, headgates, or other infrastructure. CAA Water Coordinators have assisted with projects throughout the Basin, which include bringing together local partners, helping with irrigation plans and designs, and identifying funding sources.
